Starting September 12, CBC/Radio-Canada will be appearing before the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to renew all of its broadcasting licences. This is a critical process in which we need the support of Canadians like you.
The CRTC is looking to hear from Canadians on what they think the role of the public broadcaster should be. Right now is your opportunity to tell the Commission that CBC/Radio-Canada is important to you. The deadline for participation is July 18.
It’s been 12 years since CBC/Radio-Canada’s licences were last renewed. In that time our world has changed: new technologies, industry consolidation, changing demographics, and shifting consumption habits.
Combined with our new strategy, Everyone, Every way, announced in February, this marks an important turning point for the public broadcaster.
At stake in this process is our ability to implement our strategy. We’ve promised to provide even more Canadian content than we do today, to expand and improve our local services, and to double the investment we make on digital platforms. We intend to deliver on that promise.
In order to do that we need three things:
- We need a modern, flexible regulatory framework;
- Canadians need to have easy access to the CBC/Radio-Canada programming they want, where ever they want. For this, we need prominent access to all distribution platforms; and
- The CRTC’s funding mechanisms, like the Local Programming Improvement Fund (LPIF) need to be protected in order that Canadians can have access to enhanced local services.
Please take some time to write the CRTC to express your views. Ask your friends, family, and colleagues to do the same.

I thank you in advance for your participation.
Sincerely,
